As part of our assessment, we were to put on a mock bulletin at 4pm. We were all assigned roles, with me being the Assistant Producer. This meant I would be extremely busy on the day and would have little time to properly focus on buildng a package, so instead I decided to pre-make one.
I decided to go all out and focus it on something I've had a vested interest in for weeks; the improving cycling infrastructure done around Sheffield by the local city council.
Over the course of the week, I rented a bike, filmed interviews and pieces to camera using a CX-10 and a GoPro, and edited it all together using Premiere Pro in preparation for the day.
I had already made contact with Dexter Johnstone previously for a different article, so it was rather simple getting in contact with him again. Whilst it was initially difficult to get in contact with Russell Cutts, I soon became aware of an 'open day' at his new cycle hub in the city centre, so went down with a CX-10 in hopes of catching him to interview.
Never had a vision in my head become so clear a reality. You can watch the video here:
I was the lead editor on a few episodes of Forge Plays (including Volleyball, Netball, and Futsal), using my creative direction to properly piece together clips made from an earlier session. I then passed it on to another person involved who added the graphics.
I was also given the chance to host my own episode of Forge Plays where I played Futsal!
As part of a wider assessment, I developed a big feature piece on adaptable sports in the UK. The following video was made as a supplementary piece to a larger written feature, involving a blind baseball team.
The video portion focuses on the Sheffield Steelkings, a para-athelete Ice Hockey team who operate out of IceSheffield. I went down to record some B-Roll and interviews and edited it all together through Premiere Pro.
The video was also later featured on Forge TV's 'This Week in Sheffield' show.
Working alongside a team, we put together this package about the current state of SEN schools in the UK. We all played our own part in helping out, with me, co-leading the scripting of the package, working behind the camera to ensure everything was always in frame and in focus, and developing the graphics seen in the video.
